I am going to fire up my 3.0 140 Mercruiser for the firsttime after winter storage.
I just finished replacing manifold and riser, sprayed carb cleaner into the carbuerator...

As I looked under the oil cap I noticed that on top of valves I have white substance that looks like white grease. I pulled the oil dipstick and there is no indication of water in the oil pan.
I will change the oil anyway as soon as I warm up the engine.
Do I need to clean valves with some kind of cleaner?

What would you guys suggest as far as season preparation? Am I missing something important?
Considering the fact that some of the obvious things are in place (engine is mounted, outdrive attached)
:) Thanks to all and Happy Safe Boating !!! :)

I think I would run it to temperature as you are going to do before changing oil, then take a look under the cap. Drain and change the oil and filter, and check periodically to see if the problem goes away. You could have some condensation from the storage.
