Hi all,
I am new to boating. I just got a 16' Fisher with a 35HP. This boat ran with no problmes 1.5 years ago, but has been in storage. I haven't tried to start it yet as I am not that familar with the operations of an outboard motor. Don't get me wrong, I am an ex-auto mechanic, but I am unfamilar with outboard motors.

Some questions....

1. Are these 2 cycle engines?
2. If 2 cycle, how is the gas and oil mixed?
3. What should I do first before I try to start the engine?
4. Maintenance tips?

I am not sure of the age of this engine, but I am guess it is atleast 10 years old.

Thanks in advanced for your help.

mchristo63

Re: Starting Engine

1) Its a two stroke.
2) Pre-mix 50:1 (13oz in 5 gal or 16oz in 6 gal)
3) Replace water pump impeller, fresh gas, carb rebuild (probably necessary), fresh plugs. Change lower unit lub. Check compression.
4) Buy a service manual specific to your engine.
