Starting in hot afternoon

I have a Volvo Penta 4.3 GXI-BF I/O which is difficult to start in the hot afternoons. It starts well in the cool morning then after trolling throughout the day with a kicker motor, wont start up to run back to the launch. Just put a pressure gauge on the Schrader valve yesterday and it took 2-4 cycles of turning on the fuel pump on to achieve 50 psi. Then the pressure started to bleed off. Suspecting the fuel pressure regulator but thought I'd throw it out here to see if anyone else has experienced this.

could be regulator, could be leaking injector

Watching the gauge,
If you turn the key and pressure builds to 50 but falls off quickly, I would think regulator first.

If it bleed off slowly I would think injector

If it takes several key cycles to build pressure then I'm leaning toward failing pump, antisiphon valve, tank vent line causing a vacuum being drawn in tank

Thanks for the replies! I took off the pressure regulator and there was some sediment in the screen. Blew it all out with carb cleaner, cleaned the o-rings and reinstalled. After several cycles to fill the fuel rail, the pressure held steady at 50 psi. We'll see next trip how it performs in heat of the day.
