Starting Issue

Hi,
First time poster, long time lurker.

I have a 1978 Johnson 85HP.
The unit started well all of last week while on holidays.
Yesterday while we were loading to come home, it was raining really hard.
I got to the dock to wait for the line up to finish so we could load up. When I went to start again, all I got was the starter spinning but it would not engage the flywheel.
Today I have the same issue.
What may be the culprit on this?

Thanks,

Re: Starting Issue

spray a little electrical cleaner on the starter splines...where the bendix rides on...then add a few drops of 3-1 oil....no wd-40 it gums up....
you can work the bendix up by putting a wrench on the top securing nut and turn the bendix...spray splines....a drop of 2 of oil...

you should be set then
