Where does everyone place their throttle when starting?
I'm talking about carb engines with remote controls.
I've always kept the throttle at Idle. I know some people and have read where others advance the throttle some.

What do you guys do?
What do the pros say?

Re: Starting Method

It all depends on the motor. Most have a warm up lever and choke. Usually pump bulb, choke and keep at idle to start. With old mercury inlines pump bulb untill firm and then 2 extra pumps, choke at idle then warm up with warm up lever. Some others you have to be careful and don't flood them. Like I said it all depends on the year, make and model. Tim

Re: Starting Method

There are carbureted motors that need the idle lever left at idle. Those include anything with an automatic choke (usually 4-strokes but not always), and a lot of Merc inline 3- and 4-cylinder 2-strokes with daisy reeds. We could be a lot more specific if we knew what you have.

I have a 1989 Johnson 225 and also a 1990 140.
Both of these engines have primer solenoids.

Re: Starting Method

All of the engines I have had had a unique "personality" for best starting. On my 1987 V4s I crack the throttle in neutral and use the primer. They like that.
