Cliff Notes:
1990 Merc 5.0 When I turn the key all I get is a click at the relay above the fuel filter. I think the Serial # is C869710.

I went to start my boat yesterday, Maxum 2500, and it fired for about a second and stopped(which is somewhat normal when its sat for a couple of weeks). It turned over a couple more times and it then acted like the battery was going dead and just turning over very slowly.
I went and got a new battery and now all it does is click when I turn the key. It sounds like the relay above fuel filter is making its contact when I hear the click. The relay looks like it has a red reset button on it, not sure if thats what it is.
Is this a starter problem? On a car I would say yes, but I'm new to boating so I don't know if there is another electrical problem elsewhere to look first.
Not sure if the process of starting the engine and the battery going dead is related/cause of the problem or just coincidence.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Starting problem

Start by cleaning all connections from the battery to the solenoids and starter, then measure voltage at all places.
