I have a 88 bayliner capri with a 2.3 omc. When ever the key is off the engine tries to start on its own. Is there a ground problem? or do I possibly have a starter or alternator problem. Someone please help.

Re: Starting problem

Ign. switch, starter relay, wiring terminals touching things they shouldn't.
Does your starter have a single terminal on the back, or does it have a solenoid on it.
Any repairs done prior to this happening?

Re: Starting problem

The starter has a single terminal and the solenoid is ontop of the engine. I'm not sure about prior issues as I recently just bought the boat. I disconnected everything from the solenoid. The onlt wires I have hooked up are the battery cable from the battery to the solenoid and a positive cable from the solenoid to the starter. Everything else (including the ignition wire) have been disconnected. I am leaning towards the solenoid but don't want to just start throwing parts at it.
