starting problems Evinrude E25RCTE

I have an Evinrude E25RCTE s/n E0214605 (year 1983) I want to try starting it whilst its on dry land as a test. It I am told does not have a water muffler where you can cool the engine down. Can any one suggest a way of starting it?<br />last summer I had a lot of starting problems with it and being a rope start it's a pain in the neck. The electronic module was changed on this because it would not switch of once started.<br />any ideas would be helpful

Quickest way is to fill a clean plastic trash can with enough water to cover the lower unit above the cavitation plate and then just keep the water running slowly to make up for what splashes out. <br /><br />It quieter than running on "muffs" and gives a little back pressure. <br /><br />Just keep it in neutral and don't run it above a fast idle.
