I have a Johnson 70 2001 (BJ70VLSIS) and experience problems when starting after the engine has been off 3-4 hours.
When I pump the primer bulb it never becomes really hard (not a hard as the oil bulb). The engine is completely dead until I raise the idle lever some. Then the engine starts and appears to run - well really bad, like it has too much fuel and that the different cylinders aren't operating together. But after a minute it's ok again. And after that it's no problem shutting it down and restarting direct.
I've searched on this site for similar problems and some ideas has been that to check the valve in the gas pump.
Can the not-so-stiff primer bulb be an indication of the problem?

Best regards,
Mats

Yes, the primer bulb and back flow valve are likely the problem.

Its time to try a new fuel line.
