I finally got my tilt and trim assembly working after almost three weeks of bickering, fighting with corroded bolts, waiting for parts and labor put into it...Now that everything is wired up i'm having a starting issue. First of all I figured that my fuel water seperator was mounted to high, I relocated it because fuel wasn't feeding through. Now that I have fuel feeding through, I can't get the motor to start. I drained the fuel from the bowl, cleaned the sparkplugs. Its getting fuel into the cylinders but not turning over after multiple attempts to start it. Am I doing something wrong? The motor cranked up when I bought the boat. Maybe i'm flooding it, or not choking it right. Any suggestions?

Re: Starting problems

first, check the safety stop lanyard.

Then, give us your starting procedure, in detail.

Start by telling us your make model and year of the motor.

Re: Starting problems

Without knowing the make, model, year, or hp, or the brand and model of controls, and the brand and model of boat, it is hard to tell you where to look or if you even have a safety lanyard. Please give us a bit more to work with.

Re: Starting problems

Its an aftermarket. I traced all the cables and removed the carb cover to see if it was choking. A good 3 hours of frustration till that one second. I noticed the plunger not moving. I found that the terminal was off. I placed it back on and WALA. I really appreciate the advice. I am now more familiar with how outboards operate. There are tips and advice I find on here that the manual does not cover. Once Again Thank You

I ONCE BOUGHT A 1976 CHRYSLER 70HP AND IT WOULDN START THE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A DISTIBUTOR SENSOR WAS BAD. THAT MAY HELP OR NOT. I DONT KNOW ALOT ABOUT BOAT MOTORS BUT THAT IS WHAT A CHRYSLER/FORCE MECHANIC TOLD ME. SO YOU MAY NOT WANT TO TAKE IT TO HEART COMING FROM MYSELF.
