i have an intermittent starting problem. when turning key on starts fine , other times it dont start. when key is in the on postion the instrument gages dont come on and engine does not crank over. Interesting thing is the engine trim tab works from motor but does not work from throttle control arm. Boat was on driveway and i wanted to check to see how much gas was in tank when turn key gage did not work . about one hour later after unloading the boat of all equipment i check it again and it worked. i put ears on it and ran for 15 min or so. the next morning i checked and nothing again . 2hrs later it worked . holy cow this thing is possesed. any help would be deeply appreciated. the falll bass run is around the corner . thanks anthony

Re: starting problems

the older we get and the older your boat get thing something need replaced likly ing, key not a hi dollar repair. but think I would check all wiring most of the time it's the ground wire. something run at a lower amp and will work other need more amps and will not work. check all wires starting at battiers.
next time please note: your motor year/hp/and who make it thanks you get a faster reply

Re: starting problems

What a pain. What model/motor? Is your wiring harness tucked away or lying along the boat floor?

Re: starting problems

Try wriggling the wiring harness under the motorcover where they connect to the motor to see if that help, then try at the controls to see if that helps in an attempt to isolate the problem.

Have you used any key/lock lube?
When it ran at night but not in the morning did you do anything to move the motor in that time such as tilting it up?
