I have recently purchased a 2000 Bayliner 1950 Bowrider.

It has the Mercruiser 3.0.

Can someone advise the correct way to start when warm?

When cold, a couple of pumps of the throttle and leaving the throtle at about half way and it will start.

When warm it seems to not like starting, however I'm not sure how I should be starting. Should I be leaving it in neutral with no throttle on, or should i have a certain amount of throttle on, or should I be accelerating while turning over?

Im a newbie so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Everyone seems to learn what works best for their boat.

On my '05 3.0L I usually leave the throttle straight up, and give it a try. If it doesn't fire by try two, I will engage the neutral button and move the lever slightly forward...but not enough to reset the choke.

Don't be afraid to try different approaches, until you find what yours likes!

Happy boating!

If the engine is warm and the choke properly adjusted, adding some throttle in neutral CAN'T set the choke. As a matter of practice, adding a little throttle generally helps a warm start -- just like it did in cars before fuel injection came along and that process was done automatically for you.

Mine responds well with neutral engaged and a little throttle when warm. Or, if you're wife is anything like mine, just freak her out thinking we're stranded on the water with a boat that won't fire.

Beware of vapor lock in the fuel pump. I have to run the blower once I get to pulling someone around the lake otherwise my engine compartment gets to hot and makes it hard to start.

Once I figured out this was the issue I no longer have problems getting the boat started once warm.
