I have a 4.3L 190hp mercruiser alpha1 and in tinkering/learning what kinda throttle is needed etc at startup a few things have come up. Hoping you guys could shed a little light for a greenhorn!

Does my ignition have to be half turned (beep....) to allow for fuel to be sent to carb?
Much danger/issue with pumping throttle up a few times and/or having it high vs low? flooding?
What is a normal/acceptable starter cranking time? More then 5 or 10sec just seems like an eternity!

Thoughts on where that loud arse beep comes from on half turn... i need to put some tape over it to muffle it a bit!

You have the TKS carb, have you looked at the owners manual? It gives you the procedures for starting with that carb. They should start in just a couple of seconds.

The fuel pump doesn't run unless the engine is cranking over or running.

Follow the sound of the buzzer, that's the easiest way to find it.
