Hello again... :)

It has been awhile since I been here. I first posted in May about my Dad's boat. To recap, it has not been started in about 9 years. I asked for advice and received TONS of it. I thought I had a years worth of work on stuff that should be done, but completed most of the engine work in 6 months.

Anyways, I am near completion with all the engine work. All that I lack is cleaning out the gas tank, hooking the fuel lines (brand new) back up to everything, and getting a battery.

My question is this. When it comes time to start the engine, do I need to take an pre-starting precautions or steps? I have slowly turned the flywheel on several occassions, so I know it is not frozen. But what about dry cylinders? Any advice?

Once again, thanks for the help.

Re: Starting Questions

And oh, PS - installing a lower unit CAN be a one-person job. Just not an easy one. :D

Re: Starting Questions

I would spray some fogging oil or some premix in the cylinders to make sure they weren't dry on start up. good luck with the start

Re: Starting Questions

What is fogging oil? And if using the mixed, would I mix it like the regular mix for normal use?

Re: Starting Questions

Take a little bit of the gas you mix up for starting the motor, put it in a nose spray bottle and squirt some into each cylinder and then turn the flywheel by hand. Now you should be ready to crank it over. Make sure your tank is clean and that you have a fuel filter between the tank and carb(s).
