Starting up old Johnson Motor not used in 6 years

I've owned a 140 HP Johnson since 1980 (it's a 79 model), but the boat has sat unused for about 6 years without being started (or winterized). Just before going Idle, I had the motor rebuilt and took it out once to run 12 gallons of double-oiled gas for it's "break in" period. So I broke it in (it ran great, btw), parked it that day, and haven't used it in 6 years.

Any thoughts on how to get it going again? Do I need to have it ripped apart again before starting, or are there things I can do myself? I don't want to turn it over, even manually, before doing the right thing (unlike what I've been doing since 2001;')

It is one of the largest paragraphs in any forum and desperately needs editing, but the engine faq forum has a very good thread on awakening a sleeping outboard:

The BRP/Evinrude website has a maintenance schedule which might serve as a checklist:

Also, after break-in you may want to re-torque the cylinder head bolts.

The FAQs are excellent advice. I bought a '72 65hp that had sat for 4 years and was fiddle-farting around with it with no experience. When I took it out it wouldn't hardly get out of the way of its own little wake. I stumbled onto this website and the FAQs. Last time I took my boat out I was doing 30MPH+ with a smooth running engine with power to spare. The FAQs work and the advice here is worth the time and effort!
