starts but dies in geer

My 60 HP Merc starts good but even though is warm as soon as put in geer shuts off then is ok for a few minutes but shuts off again?!too much gas or no gas or carb problem,help please. thanks

It could be a few things like carb and also compression and also an electrical fault. Have a search on the archives of this site for how to check that you have a strong spark. Basically it has to jump a minimum gap. If thats ok try a compression test and then after that if the readings are ok- rebuild your carbs, paying close attention to the needle jets, you could run through some seafoam first as well to see if that assists.
Check the fuel pump bulb remains tight, ie dosent have an airleak

A lean idle mixture will seem to idle fine, yet fail and die once put under load when shifted into gear.

If the carbs are dirty this will begin to cause idle problems long before you notice a problem at WOT.
