I have an 89 Bayliner Capri with a 5.8l OMC. Had to replace the 'fuse link" fuse. Now engine starts but will not stay running when ignition switch is released to "on" position. Switch is OK. Resistor wire checks out at 1.6 ohms. Kill switch is OK. I cannot find the other 20 amp SFE fuse which is also in the circuit and is supposed to be under the dash. Any suggestions?

When the key is set to RUN, what's your voltage at the coil's power wire?

Sorry for the delay but could not get to the boat earlier. The voltage at the coil is zero with ignition switch "on".

Is your man over board tether in place? If so, measure voltage at the ignition switch and after the tether.

Those man over board switched on those years of Bayliners were junk so I wouldn't be surprised if that was it.

You basically have to track down the voltage from the ignition switch. From there it goes through the man over board switch, through the engine connector, through the ballast resistor and then to the coil.

Checked for continuity through the switch and it was ok and it activated when I removed the the retainer on the switch.

You need to measure the voltage with a load on it. Measuring continuity isn't good enough. For a simple test bypass it with some jumper wires.

The boat is at the cottage so I cannot try it until the weekend. I will post the results.
