Re: starts hard after shutdown
What method do you use to restart it? In other words, do you have to pump the throttle as if it were a cold engine? What exactly works to get it restarted? You are either rich or lean at restart. First thing I would look at is where the choke plate is sitting at after your through with lunch. If you have only sat for a short period of time, the choke plate should still be in the open or almost open position. If it's wound too tight, this would cause a rich starting condition on an already warm engine. Second scenario would be that the carb is dumping fuel while your sitting. This also would cause a rich restart. If that is the problem, starting the boat with the throttle at WOT helps with the restart and is the same procedure you would use on a car if it's flooded. Third scenario is that the carb is leaking down while your sitting due to a faulty needle and seat or bad float. The restart on this would be having to pump the accelerator as if the engine were cold because the engine is starved for fuel. Next time this happens, pull the spark arrestor off and see where the choke plate is sitting at. There should be no or little tension on the plate. Next, pump the accelerator and see if there is fuel being shot down the venturi. You have to play detective on this one before you can cure it. Keep us posted.
