help is a wish to you FOR good luck. My advice is to pour the $$$$$$$ at the games your kids wish to play. Within reason. It's only money, some here will say I am a fool, but should your kids win some sort of prize "Dad" and "Mom" are heros in their eyes.

Have fun tomato, there is no angle to beating these games imo.

Dont bother with the softball in the basket, its rigged to be darn near impossible. The guy will demo it INSIDE the booth, ask him to demo it standing where you would stand.

Milk bottles are too heavy to know over.

Rings are barely big enough to get on the bottles.

Try darts/balloons and the "shoot the star with the BB gun" games.

Also, the coin toss where you have to get exactly in the square is pretty good. Be sure to stand aiming at the long part of the table.

Ken

I'm with Ken....Having grown up very near Seaside, N.J. & knowing people that actually worked those games...The coin toss is doable, but not likely...I HAD to come up with a "Cabbage Patch Doll" when they were more valuable than platinum # for #....That one is doable but tough.....The rest ....You might as well play the lottery. :D Better off spending your $ on rides...At least they will enjoy it & you won't be left with a bunch of stuffed animals if you are that skillful/lucky? to actually win...IMHO.It's still fun though. I recomend the sledge hammer/how high? one too...JK

pjc is right, but this may help..
The ring toss.. If you look at the rings carefully you'll find them quite small. They are made to just barely fit over the bottle tops. If you throw them with the tips of your fingers up not across you may have a chance.
Darts, well the darts they use now are not weighted and if you look at the tips they are dull. Throw harder.. Ask the guy to do an example. See if he use's his wrist or shoulder to pop the balloon.. Sometimes he will take a dart from his pocket that is sharp and weighted. When he picks it up he will put it in his pocket and give you the junk..
SoftBall in the basket is a old one that has been perfected even better.. When he stands to give an example, he will slightly stretch his arm out and flip and twist the ball so it actually rolls back into the basket.. Example... Ever take a kids hola hoop and make it come back to you.. Well that is how the game works also.. Milk bottle and ring toss are simular.. unless it is the game you use ball to knock the bottle down.. Or the ball into the milk bottle. Same type style as the flip and twist.
The bottle and pole where you try to stand the bottle up. That one is easy.. When you get the bottle part way up with ring around it. Give it slight tung and the bottle will stand streight up and the ring will pop off..

Fairs are just not money wise for the pocket book.
But bring 2 packs of cigs with you just incase. If the fair is like the one here, they hire people to work the rides that owe fines and tickets. These guys are pretty much nice.. But alot don't get cigs., so at the late afternoon they tend to get a little disparate.. If you stand behind your child. Pull out a cig. watch there eyes.. Move it back and forward. shake your head yes and if they give to the sign back. Piont at the ride and the child.. It works for me and 3 kids we had one time, plus the ride didn't end until the cig was gone.. This however only works in the late afternoon.. Also works for some of the games too. Put your cigs in your front pocket and lift them out in front of the Carnies. They will make a jester. You can also get free stuff to. A large stuffed scooby cost me 3 bucks and 4 cigs... I don't smoke, but they did. Free rides and games too.
Just remember this: where there is a way there is a scam..
Now for cash... Bring 5's and 10's. Stay away from 20's unless you have to pay to get into the fair.. If your real cool about it and there is not a bunch of people around you can real quitely ask the kid working if a 10 will get you a med. stuff animal and the child will play and think they won.. Show your cigs and get the eye attention going.. After you win ask him if he could suggest any other games to try. That is the sign for him to pass you to another person..
Some of those carnies are out there from 6 in the morning until closing and are tired so, they are more likely to work with you.. Never ask for the large prize, they may have to yell out We have a Winner.. That is what you don't want..
The Carnie call... used at fairs to get your attention. Example:: Hey come on everyones a winner. Hey I'll give you a great deal, try it is so easy.. Just show them the cigs in your pocket and ask them in a quite vioce what kind of deal?
Hey they want to target us as parents, lets just be prepared..
I hope this little info. helps... Now they do have their own workers, so if you watch them, you maybe able to tell.. They are the ones with cigs.. That is a give-a-way..

No I didn't work for a fair.. My cousin used to date a carnie when I was a kid.. He trained the guys and showed them how to present the games..

You might talk my oldest son into runing a "Three Card Monte" game, He's really good at it and would only take a small percentage of the gross. :D

...Bob in Calif...

While facing the counter of the chosen game reach slowley into your wallet and pull out the money...As you do this ask the attendant where the nearest Mail box is. Stuff this money into an envalope and Mail to Neumann's......I will send ya your stuffed animal's shortly :D

Neuman.. ROFL :)

Thanks for the tip BD. I always knew there was something.

Personally, I haven't been to the fair in years, despite how much the kids whine. The fairs have just become too darn expensive.

Last time I looked, it would have cost me close to $100 just to get in the door!

I always liked the dime toss. I thought it was pretty fair and honest. You get what you shoot at, and I typically left with a lot of stuff.
A roll of dimes would keep you entertained for some time.

As for the rest of the games... forget it. They are rigged in some way or other.

H.

Here are some more.. The bb gun with star..
Shoot all around the star in a circle, then shoot middle out.. Its not easy..
Water gun balloon clown.. If you shoot directly into the clowns mouth and hold it steady, you may win.. Some of the clowns have restrictors switches that are controlled by the operator. This restricts air so slightly, you can't tell. 2 adults were neck to neck at popping the balloon, but the little kid 3 places down won.. Go figure..
Hate to tell you this, but Dime toss is harder to win these days.. They can wash the glass in a non-glare lubercate. Probally same thing used to wash coins down with at casino's. It prevents the coins from jamming all the time in the chambers. If you have ever won a bunch of nickles at a casino and handle the coins you can feel the stuff, that is why they give out towlets.. How to even get a chance winning a dime toss. Take 5 dimes stack them on top of each other in hand, toss all 5 up wards, not across.. The last fair I went to I won 2 pieces of glass, I washed them that nite with palmolive dish soap and the film used came off.. That was 4 yrs ago.. HINT: if you carefully look at the table set up now being used for the coin toss the base is alot higher. This way you have to throw higher. Now some toss have nets above the glass to keep the coins in. Toss the coin straight into the netting it will bounce it back into the glass. I have won stuff this way..
Same lube is used in the dime in red circle board,
now its a quarter. You can slide the quarter on the red dot by using another quarter to move it. Now that was permitted a few years ago. Don't know if you can still do it.

I'd rather go to Chuckie Cheeze, at least I don't have a carnie bugging me.. I have the kids..

if you go up to the guy who is operating the rides offer him some cash for ride tickets. instead of ripping them up he will hold on to them and exchange them for you they always want cash . i always get triple the amount of tickets compare to the cash.
