State Sticker

Most states require a state registration sticker next to the number. In VA they send you a sticker and a clear overlay to put on the boat.

There are numerous posts about applying numbers to a RIB, but what about the sticker? Should I just stick it to the tube (sticker has self adhesive) or is there a better way? In VA the stickers are for 3 years.

In VA when you get a new sticker your supposed to take the old one off. Is there an application method that will keep the sticker on for 3 years yet allow it to be removed when needed to replace it without damaging the tubes?

My RIB is on a trailer and does not get inflated/deflated except when necessary for maintenance.

Thanks.

You can get some of these and glue them to the boat:

In my experience, the registration stickers are designed to stick well to fiberglass but tend to peel off plastic after a while. I have to glue them back on again -- I used some 2-part epoxy and they're holding so far.

Re: State Sticker

I didn't want to put anything on the tubes to effect later resale value. And it's obvious now I'm getting a bigger SIB down the road. I use a painted 2x4 for the registration. Others I've hung around with use a flexible plastic. I called the Coast Guard in Lake Superior since I had found a post in the archives saying homeland security didin't want detachable numbers like that but they said I was fine.

I bought a large flexible plastic For Sale sign at WalMart and cut it in half, put a couple of holes in it to hang it from the oarlocks, and stuck the stickers on the unprinted, white side of the sign. Works great for me and it was cheap.

Re: State Sticker

OK, I got some of the Weaver registration pockets. Now I need to glue them to the boat. Is one part glue (usually from a tube) good enough for these, or should I go whole hog and get the two part glue and do the full process?

These are not structural parts of the tube so I would think that the tube glue might be sufficient.

Thanks.

Re: State Sticker

P.S. The instructions on the package say to use "super glue". Has anyone tried that? How well does it work?

Thanks.
