What do you guys reckon on this statement from the UAE Defense Ministry?
I’ve never heard of this being an issue in all my years in the Auto industry, or is it?

UAE - The Defence Ministry has advised all the car owners in the UAE not to fill the fuel tank full, because for the next few weeks temperature will shoot up to 53-54 degrees and thus can cause the fuel tank to burst. Please pass this message to one and all and off course to your nearest and dearest ones as all of us here are habitual of filling our car tanks full.

They do like to put out unqualified scary warnings all too often over here for but maybe there is cause for concern.
I’m just not convinced though…….I’d be more worried about an A380 sitting on the tarmac at Dubai International with full tanks….

I've heard of fuel expanding when temps warm up but never heard of a gas tank bursting because of it.

Highly doubtful, even if breather was blocked it would force its way past filler cap. I helped commision diesel plant in UAE and the worst we got was leaking from caps. A lot of these tanks were 3-4000 gallon standalones made from plate welded into a box with no more than a couple of strips for internal bracing and they didn't even bulge.

If the gas expands enough to come out of the tank via the filler or other means then there is the possibility of ignition and explosion.

Unless you got this directly from the Minister him or herself, and given that the maximum recorded temp in Dubai is 48 deg. C., I'd be looking for this on Snopes any day now. ;):D
