I have a '94 Silverado that has the stock radio in it. The radio in this struck used to work perfectly, but about 1 month ago, I started getting nothing but static from it. Once in a while I can get a station with a bunch of static, but when I change the station it will be the same axact station on every single channel. Any ideas as to how to fix this problem. Other than replacing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

replacing it sounds like that would be the way to go, and maybe cost less too

More than likely the coax going from the antenna to the radio, go to AutoZone and get a cheap antenna and try it. Just plug it in and hold the antenna up to see if the interference is gone, without unscrewing the old antenna.should work but keep the AutoZone receipt in case it doesn’t.

Forgot to add if that does the job in that old of a radio, there is a trimmer right beside where the antenna plugs into the radio. If you have to replace the antenna you will have to adjust the trimmer. Not hard to do just put the radio on a station on the lower part of the am band and get a small screwdriver with a plastic handle and adjust till you get the best reception. Works better if you have a weak station

Could be as simple as the antenna coming unplugged. Tape/CD player work?

Thanks for the advice, I will try it out. See if antenna is loose, or gone bad.

I agree that it is probably the antenna coming loose. also check where it exits the interior. if the grommet wore out it could short the antenna too.

I doubt its the antenna. The fact that he hears the same station on multiple frequencies seems like the radio is shot. No antenna wouldn't give that result. No antenna would give static, or one station on one frequency.

No, Its not the antennae. The radio on my moms 1994 suburban is did something similar. A whole bunch of static and selective listening (it wont pick up certain channels on FM and gave up on AM). A new radio is the way to go. Their is also a great online car audio site that seems to know everything about the electronics in almost every car from at least the fifties. I will post it once I remember it. It has a great rep and knows about the car. Such as if an air vent is notorious for breaking during instalation a replacement will be sent w/ the radio.
