I have a 1992 johnson 40 hp short shaft power trim engine. Is there a static timing method for this engine like there is for force and many others? I have never seen a static timing number for these engines. The local outboard shop does not have a test wheel for this engine. They say they go to the dock and set around 4000rpm. I could do that but the way the timing works on this engine 4k would not be full advance. Full advance is not until the very end or almost full throttle. Someone must have static numbers for these engines. Thanks for any help.

I use an old prop with half of each blade cut
Off for the models I don't have test wheels for.

I would think. Be warned, you'll get wet without a suitable tank. I have a Kerr marine tank that has a lid that more or less seals around the mid.

I tried the Joe reeves timing method to see where it was showing. It' 2 degrees retarded with this method @ wot. Is this method for all omc cd cdi ignitions? Has anyone checked actual timing with a wheel after setting to the Joe reeves timing method?
