I am having the Force charging system problem and I have tried searching on here an can?t find a definite answer on how many AC volts my stator is supposed to produce at idle. I am getting around 15.5 volts AC, is that correct? I am also getting 12.4 DC at the battery. I have also put on a new rectifier. If anyone has incite on AC output please chime in.
Thanks,

The tachometer simply counts AC voltage pulses coming out of the stator before the AC voltage is rectified to DC.

Malfunctions in the charging system generally cause the battery to be undercharged and the tachometer to read erratically or totally fail.

so do you think that around 15 volts ac ideling is good enough at the stator?

When it comes to outboard motors I'm no expert, but in automobiles the alternator should put out 14.7 volts from the regulator regardless of engine speed. The old generators that cars used prior to the 1960's did have a variable output depending on engine speed. When alternators with built-in solid state regulators came along, that problem was fixed.

Put a voltmeter on the battery while you are operating the boat. Idle speed usually does not have enough volts to start charging. You want no more than 15 volts going to the battery when the boat is flat out or you will start cooking the battery. Check the sticky about voltage problems.
