MODELS 30 JET 40 (4 CYL) With Serial Numbers
United States 0C159200 and Above . . . . . . .
Belgium 9570305 and Above . . . . . . . . . . .
Canada 0A748269 and Above . . . . . . . . . . . .

I have the Belgium one with the model #09682784.I can see it has a black stator on it by looking under the flywheel. How can you tell if it's a 9 amp. or 16 amp. stator without removing the flywheel? I'm wanting to perform this test on it but don't know wich one it is.Stator Test (Black Stator)
1. Disconnect all stator leads.
2. Use a VOA meter and perform the following
checks.
9 AMP Stator
Test Leads To – Ohm
Scale
Ohm
Reading
Blue and Blue/White R x 1000 5.7-8.0
Red and Red/White R x 1 56-76
Blue and Engine Ground R X 1000 No Reading
Red and Engine Ground R X 1000 No Reading
YEL and YEL R x 1 .5-1.0
16 AMP Stator (398-9710A33 & 398-9710A42)
Test Leads To – Ohm
Scale
Ohm
Reading
Blue and Blue/White R x 1000 1000-1400
Red and Red/White R x 1 15-30
Blue and Engine Ground R X 1000 No Reading
Red and Engine Ground R X 1000 No Reading
YEL and YEL R x 1 .10-.50
NOTE: Above resistance readings are for a cold engine
(room temperature). Resistance will increase if
engine is warm.
If meter readings are other than specified, replace
stator./ma
Any help would be nice and thanks in advance.

Re: Stator Help ?

lebruce, it seems to me that if you have the readings for a 9 amp and 16 amp, why don't you just take the readings to see what they are? There's enough variance in some of the readings to make a judgement, or am I missing something? Aside from that, what differnce does it make whether 9 or 16?

I would also recommend you get a flywheel puller. With it,you will have access to all the components of the ignition system.

Jerry

Re: Stator Help ?

Jerry, Thanks for the reply. You see my problem is I'm not getting any fire at the plugs.I don't know if the problem is the trigger switch, switch box, stator or something else.I still don't know the exact year of the motor yet lol.I plan on doing a ignition component test on all the above with a VOA meter.I've done allot more digging around and come up with it being a 9 amp. by going by the wire diagram of the motor. Can anyone give me the replacement part #'s for these parts?I know I'm going to need one if not more of them. Thanks old post

Re: Stator Help ?

lebruce - I had to diagnose no spark recently on a 75Mariner. I did it by the book working back form the coils etc. When I got to the stator it didn't matter which spec it was it read such a high resistance I knew it was toast without knowing which stator it was. You can probably Ohm it from the switchbox after disconnecting the 3 wires.
Good luck
