Stator ignitions

Hi folks,

Am looking at buying a late 70s 25hp that uses the stator ignition system and would like to know how reliable these are as I see the stator assembly is quite exspensive to replace. This is the large round stator and not the smaller one used in the mid 80s motors.

Are problems mostly with the coils and power packs or do the stators fail as well?

Thanks, Kevin

Re: Stator ignitions

Was hoping some one could shed a little light. This is a very fine looking motor at a very nice price. But from what I've seen on Shop.Evinrude to replace that stator is $276.00. Almost what I'd be paying for the motor!

Which is why I ask. Should I buy or pass and keep looking for a newer model (mid 80s) or an older points model?
