Stator question

I have an old stator that was on a motor that was running until a piston ring broke, but upon inspection, i noticed it was cracked at the top and seemed to have melted and leaked out black plastic out of it. I know the engine overheated at one point, and it was hot when the ring broke, but would the stator still work as a spare, or should i just junk it?

typically a potted stator is bad when it has cracked open.
