Mercury V6 no spark on all cyl. Tested stator and it failed installed new stator still no spark. Disconnected both black with yellow wires to switch boxes still no spark, disconnected Commander harness to motor cranked over still no spark. Tested output of new stator had less than 40 volts and the new stated failed ohms test between red and blue wires and r/w and b/w. Any body got any ideas out there. Its like the switch boxes are grounded internally and shorting out the stators ability to produce voltage.

Re: Stator Question

Is that 40 volts with the switch boxes connected or not? And across which wires?

Those stators have (effectively) 4 outputs.. 2 'high-speed' and 2 'low-speed'... The blue and the blue/white wires are the low-speed... Measure each of those to ground... If you try and measure the red and the red/white to ground, at cranking speed, you'll get very little out of them....

Chris........

Did you disconnect the blk/yel wire from the tilt switch?

Re: Stator Question

Blue and Blue/w should be low speed windings. Took it out of system completly the tilt switch that is. My partner at work says the stator is indexed correctly. I dont believe that should have any bearing on the out put at all since the magnets in the flywheel passing the stator coils is what creates the voltage. Seems to me the output should be the same no matter where the stator is positioned. I bought a Blue Point MT 135 yesterday and I will try it tommorrow. I will let you know.

Re: Stator Question

I have the old Mark 1 analyzer with DVA adapter the reason I want to use the MT135 is the auto ranging feature. I believe it will handle the output to the switch boxes ok. low speed coil output shouldnt exceed 250 volts. and hi speed coil output should only be around 20-90 volts.

Did you read the link I posted? In there it explains why a standard RMS meter will NOT work!!!
