the stator doesn't control the timing, the trigger does. I should not matter how the stator is mounted. Was the key re-installed on the flywheel ?

Maybe a few pics could help us give you better info.

Usually they only fit one way.
The timing shouldn't change? Unless someone has moved it?????

Why did you change the stator? What was the problem??

Yes IInstalled the flywheel key I am not positive it had one in it when I pulled it off originally and the reason I replace the stator is because I lost spark on all four cylinders

The stator orientation is not critical. With symmetrical four bolt holes, the only thing that you need to consider when installing is the orientation of the wiring connection and making sure it does not catch the flywheel.

On the otherhand, the trigger only goes one way because of its connection with the timing tower rod.

First thing you need to do now is to check mechanical zero for the #1 piston TDC and the marking on the flywheel. Thereafter do the static timing. And finally check for sparks on all cylinders.

It HAD to have a key if it ever ran.
The key orients the ignition timing when installed right.

It will still spark if he key is sheared.
The timing will be off but not start.

Read the first three posts in this forum, LOT'S of good info there.

Unhook the tach, see if that helps.
