Stator voltage?

Does anyone know what the A/C voltage should be coming off the two yellow stator wires on a 1986 90hp inline six merc? I get 99 volts at WOT without the red positive wire hooked up to the rectifier. When I do hook the red wire up it will not run at wot. Any ideas?

Yellow does not compute on 1988. Yellow is magneto ignition,. Is yours magneto?<br />The 6 cyl inline models use two different stator types. Type-1, and type-2.<br />Type-1 grounds directly thru the stator's mounting plate.<br /><br />Type-2 grounds to the engine using a black wire.<br />Is it type-1 or 2?<br />An ohms test would be more of a go/no-go test for iether, but the test text is a page long on both.
