I have a 1988 mercury 150 Black max XR2 and i bought a new CDI stator and trigger and the wires on the new 6 wire stator are different color coded then the original mercury stator but the trigger wires are the same color if some one could help me out with why the different colors on the stator wires i would greatly appreciate it ?

Did directions come with the stator? I just replaced the stator in my 1978 70hp and it was somewhat different from the original too. In my case the new CDI stator I bought can apparently be used in a few different engines. It even had a few extra wires. I followed the directions and it seems to work just fine.

What colors you got as should be reds/blues/yellow and blk
