Since I bought mine with built-in GPS, three of my friends have bought the same unit. We were setting up a couple of them at a raft-up last weekend and we found a really cool feature.
The VHF has a sort-of address book that you can use to program others' names and MMSI call numbers into. If your friends set theirs up too, you can actually make a 'telephone call' to another boat. Choose your friend from the address book, pick the channel you want to transmit on (we use 72), and hit the 'call' option. Both VHF's ring just like a telephone, and display who's calling. When your friend keys the mic to answer, his VHF switches automatically to the same channel the caller is on.
