Hello again ! I ran my engine today and think I might finaly be on to something I hope . I notice after I ran it for some time and waited for the smoke to cleared . I pulled the # 1 plug and steam came out of that cyl. I pulled a few others no steam but oil on them . Do I have a bad head or head gasket ? The compression is 150 across all cyl. Thanks Jim

The first thing I would suspect would be the head gasket...but you say you have 150 psi across the board.

TMD

Re: Steam from #1 cyl

Hey Guy's ! Thank for the replys . The #1 cyl had a little oil not much . The other's had more oil on them . I dont know how true this is but the force dealer said I could have good compression and still have a bad head or gasket .Would a bad head make a engine smoke bad ? Can I get away with just resurfacing the head or must I also resurface the block when I replace the head gasket ? Thank again for the help ! Jim

You will not know for sure if there is a blown headgasket unless you remove the head.

You may have to resurface the head..but will have to change the gasket for sure.

Are you sure it was steam and not exhaust? Its possible that the cyl was in the down position and the exhaust side was open. Could have come from there. Once the exhaust had vented..you would not knowtice any comming out of the other cyl's as it had already been removed.

TMD

Generally not.

Its like when you take a shovel and stick it into the ground. Once you remove the dirt...you are no longer digging a hole...you already have one. You are just increasing the size of it.

So what I am saying is that when it blows...its already blown and only gets worse.

TMD
