I am correct in saying that some steaming at the back of the sterndrive is OK or normal. Have 1987 5.7 Mercruiser with Alpha one. After running fast for some time, then coming to idle, there is some steam inthe back. Also when first starting. Thanks Roman

Re: Steaming

are you running in cold water? steaming is somewhat normal on the outside. now if you have steam on the inside you have problems.

Re: Steaming

I am running the boat in lake Superior. Cold Water. The steaming I get is at the back of the boat on the outside. It usually only occurrs after running fast for some time, 3500 rpm and then bringin the boat to a stop and idle.

I have no steam on the inside that i know of.

Re: Steaming

Charlie, my temp does not climb. It will actually settle down and the engine will and gauge move to indicate a lower temperature.
Thanks Roman

Re: Steaming

Some steam is perfectly normal when running in cooler waters. The water that passes through the exhaust is merely picking up the heat it was intended to. As long as your temp stays OK, you're in good shape.
