Steele.......

can you email your response, it would seem to be faster, lol, thanks

rwhite@ligtel.com

gots a '65 Merc 200 wondering how to adjust carbs @WOT or even idle for that matter, when you have to pull start it then thinking like a friggin idiot, remove the cowling?......since there are no openings or ports to get into adjust the carbs, this seems quite insane to remove the cover whilst the engine is running,? or are we to make adjustments then start and see if it was the correct adjustment...looking stupid in Indiana.....again, lol

Dont know your motor but Im pretty sure you can remove covers and then crank and start.
If the motor has high and low speed adjust
Gently bottom both then turn out low speed 1 1/2 turns, high speed out 3/4 turn. Run motor to warm adjust high speed running at speed wot then adj. idle slow in gear.

Steelspike, this particular motor when the shroud is removed, so is all chances of turning the motor over, now there normally is a tab that you can hook a pull rope to start the thing, but not this motor, seems strange. the top of the magneto has tabs that go straight up, and no possible way to hook a rope to it, basically you cant start this one unless the shroud is on :(

any other clues?..

thanks Richard

Salty, I would try to loop a fine starter rope around one tab take the short end inside the first tab and lay it on the outside of the next tab
lay the long end of rope on top of it as you wrap it around the flywheel.Be sure you wrap it so it will realease as the flywheel comes around.
If there is room maybe you could wrap a strap around the the flywheel itself enough to grip it to start.??

Re: Steelespike..adjust carbs

great idea, this is what I have done, but alas, I think i have found another problem, ...it seems the woodruff key between the magneto and crank has sheared, I beleive that will cause it to get no fireas the timing will surely be off, so I must replace the key, but that should not shear?....should it?

thanks for your help

Richard
email me please....

rwhite@ligtel.com

Its not uncommon for the key to shear. The biggest culprit for shearing it is a backfire, but sometimesit seems like they just shear for no know reason. Walker
