Hi!

We own 1964 V5 Johnson and are desperatly trying to connect it to a Teleflex steering.

Our problem is, that the obvious connection point, a steel bar with connecting screw, doesn't seem to work out, since when we rotate the motor, the bar also rotates and changes it's angle to the teleflex rod, which only wants to move left and right. (Does that make sense?)

Are we missing a connection joint or something?

Thanks in advance,
Joerg Mueller

There should be a bracket that fastens the outer cable to the transom or there is another one available if you have a high sided motor well that will mount the cable on the side of the well, then there is a adapter kit that fastens the center to the engine, I am not quite sure of what you are missing--Bob

That was quick!

I guess we're missing everything ;-) Bracket is clear, adapter kit not! That's probbly what we are missing. Here is a picture of the engine:

http://schoenmueller.com/phpwcms_tmp/thumb_preview/1_72_BEnkjplkEN.jpg

On the right right side, just below the point where the hood would cover. Is that the bracket you are talking about? It has fastener at it's center. The question is, what do I fasten to it?

The end of the steering cable should bolt to the bracket on the front of the motor. As laddies has said you need a bracket to hold the outer covering of the steering cable still. Older motors use this setup. The bracket bolts to the transom of the boat and allows the cable to pivot some but not move left and right. Search here in iboats store, I believe they have these brackets. If you have this bracket and are talking about only where it connects to the motor there is a swivel piece needed for this connection to allow for the angle change when turnig the motor.
