Steering appears to be hard

My engine's (1966 Merc 950 O/B, 95hp, Inline 6) steering appears to be somewhat hard (not sure what else to call it). It's not power steering so maybe I'm just being paranoid...but wanted to ask before the cable broke or something !<br /><br />I lubed 2 points (that I could find) on the steering rod (i guess you call it). Any other places I could be missing? Any other maintenance to try?<br /><br />thanks in advance!

Hey my friend... at idle or low speeds an outboard that big will be hard to steer (your muscles will build up!). Once you get that bad boy moving along the steering will become easier (the faster you go, the easier it gets).

why hello! Thanks for the info..of course I haven't gotten my engine at high speeds (yet)! Read my other posts...maybe you can help me out!!!

I'd probably do better at helping you diagnose the charging problem.

Do you know if there are any other areas that I should lube for the steering?

mmmm, not sure on your deal. Did you find fittings on the 2 points you did lube?

Yeah, the prop spinning faster helps you turn the motor much eaier. You'll see. At WOT you'll think you have power assist!
