Steering cable fitment?

Just picked up an 16ft. '89 Alumacraft with a 70 hp yamaha but am unhappy with the placement of the console and want to move it forward a few feet. It is currently setup to where I sit on the rear deck (uncomfortable) and I want to move it up and put a seat behind it. All the other cables are long enough except the steering cable which measures about 8ft. I think 12 ft should be fine with a little extra for wiggle room. My question is do I need a specific one or is there a generic type? Thx

Re: Steering cable fitment?

depends, depends on who made the helm and what type cable it is, some of the morse stuff as well as a few other brands are no longer avalible.
look on the cable jacket for a part number.
