Re: Steering cable help

teleflex is on the majority of new boats. i recommend the rotary no feedback system. here are pictures of my 1988 88 special's connections.

Re: Steering cable help

that looks exactly like my motor. do you know if the teleflex cable will thread onto the side of the tube like the factory cable. also do you know about the pretech rotary system sold on iboats.com it is about half the price i was wandering about the quality.

Re: Steering cable help

you factory cable was probably a teleflex, yes they are made to fit. it's a standard fitting. haven't use pretech, but the nofeed back you can turn the wheel loose, to reach something, and the wheel will not turn. just a better system worth the extra money.

Re: Steering cable help

it looks like most of the cables on the website are transom mount. are you saying that the teleflex cable will have a nut so i can mount it to the tilt tube? sorry to be such a bother but i'm still not sure how this is going to install. thanks for all the help.

Re: Steering cable help

bought a teleflex kit yesterday from local marina. they said the motor end of the cable is industry standard and it was. removed old helm and cable and installed all new in about 1.5 hours. but i already had the motor off. anyway it works great thanks to all for the help.
