Steering Cable insert replacement?

Great Forum. I've read most related issues on steering cable problems and replacements but would like to post a slant question. I had to hack off the Teleflex Safe-T QC cable at the engine side due to the cable end being stuck in the pivot tube (Bent, rust, etc). Since the routing of the outer rubber would involve removing my center console section of the decking:
Can I simply buy a replacement cable, remove the inner metal sleave and cable and route that through the existing rubber section which was routed at boat build time?

Has any tried this? The Helm bezel were replace last year and the existing rubber outer section of cable is fine.

Sorry, it's an assembly. The cable (itself) is not serviceable.

Thanks for the response. Removing the decking will allow me to check out the internals of the boat as well (Tank, pump, etc) so maybe a good idea to do. Thanks.
