My boat is a 20ft SeaCraft C/C. My steering cable needs to be replaced. Can you good people recomend a steering cable length?
I have a Teleflex SafeT helm. I do not have the cable out but I want to go ahead and order it.
I am also having trouble up loading jpeg files from my computer. Is there a trick? My files may be to big.
Thanks in advance.

The only thing I might add is that since you have a center console I might add the heigth of the wheel above the floor into the equation. That depends on the routing of the cable though. IMHO

I am going to be patient and measure it when I get it out.
I want to ask what the thought is about cutting a key hole in the splash well to get the cable out instead of unbolting the motor because of the angle.

Unbolt the motor and slide it over is just my best practice then reseal the bolts with 3m 4000 series sealant (do not use silicone)..... it's worth it even if you have to lift the motor to get the cable aligned properly in the steering tube.

Good idea to wait until you can measure it. You might even find the length marked on the cable, it was there when it was new. Moving the motor is a better idea than cutting a hole. You can usually get the motor to move enough without unhooking anything else. Often there is enough slack in the control cables and wiring to allow just enough.

Use a length of rope or wire attached to the helm end and then pull out the cable. OR: If you can not get it out the engine end, attach the rope to that end and pull forward. It will help to have an extra set of hands. The rope will allow you to feed in the new one without much trouble.

To post photos that are too large, upload them to PAINT on your computer then change the size (75, 50, 25% or custom) until the photo is less than --I forget the size quoted-- I modify mine until they are about 145 KB. Save the modified photo to your desktop or another site and then When you Manage Attachments you will be able to search it and upload to the forum.

This is my vessel.1989 SeaCraft. It needs a steering cable and the 70gal. internal fuel tank cleaned. Other than those two issues the trailer is H/D everything. The 1989 Mercury 200 Black Max has 120 PSI across all 6 cylinders. The bimini top is new. $3850.00. This is the best deal I have ever gotten. I say this without having been on the maiden voyage, but I do not beleive in jinxs. I put it in the water, I just did not leave the dock because of the steering cable.
