Steering cable on power steering

I have a 2008 Mercruiser with power steering and noticed the steering was starting to get stiff when turning. I took the cable out of the steering tube, greased it and re-installed the cable. The steering seems to be OK now. The question I have is my steering cable does not have a grease zert on the locking nut. Would it be worthwhile for me to install a nut that has a zert on it so I can grease the cable with a grease gun instead of taking the cable loose to grease it?

Re: Steering cable on power steering

Not really. If you use anti corrosion grease it should be good for awhile. When there is a grease fitting a lot of ppl don't understand what it is there for and pump it full of grease and hydrolicly lock their steering. Cables don't get greased just the slide part that you did.

If you do put a zerk on it only put a small amount of grease when the cable is fully retracted so the grease goes to the slide and not in to the cable housing.
