Was wondering if someone could possibly help me out?

I'm looking for a new steering cable for a 19' Bayliner Capri (stop laughing, it's for a friend) with a 125 force. What size cable would he need?

Also looking for new gauges (speedo, tach, hours, gauge gauge) for this boat.

Thank you,
Tim

To size the cable, you need the distance from the helm part of the system to the O/B tilt tube. The best way is to remove and measure the old one. Length is critical. I would recommend going ahead and replacing the whole system. They're resonably priced and easy to install.

Jack,
thank you for your response. When you say "whole assembly", do you mean the cable and steering wheel or ? Keep in mind that I'm new to this stuff and just trying to help my friend out.

Thank you,
Tim

newbie,

Following are some sites for you to visit.

1. Teleflex: Steering and guages.

http://www.tfxmarine.com/Marine/home.asp?ID=2

2. West Marine-Everyting.

www.westmarine.com

This site also has an excellent steering section that outlines how to measure, etc. Once you figure that out, you'll find that the premier brand of cable steering is Teleflex/Morse. Many vendors on the iboats board carry those products at competitive prices, probably better than West. I would suggest you shop them (iboats marketplace) first.
