my steering cable on my 115 was frozen, I unhooked the steering arm, backed the cable nut off and tapped on the cable until it became free, now the chrome ram that goes inside the tilt tube is moving freely by itself without my turnong the wheel??? weird huh? when i turn the steering wheel nothing happens.
does the chrome end screw on the cable or did I break something when trying to free it
because I can see the cable runnong thru the steer head under the console just not moving the chrome end that steers the engine
too late to make a long story short!! sorry for being so verbose
let me know what you think

Re: steering cable question

If you did not undo anything other than the steering end of the cable out of the tilt tube, then more than likely the cable is broken...

That rod should move with the wheel regardless of whether or not its attached to anything...

The jam nut just keeps it in place so that when it does move, it exerts the force on the steering arm (thereby making the motor turn), instead of pushing the whole assembly back out of the tube...

make sense?

Re: steering cable question

what breaks on it? is the cable attached inside the chrome ram (for lack of a better term) somehow?
