Re: steering cable removal
I assume this is NOT a hydraulic system. Shoot some grease into the grease fittings. Both of them on TILT (STEERING) TUBE. Turn steering back and forth a couple of times and trim the motor up and down a couple of times, This is to spread the lubrication around. Disconnect steering arm that is connected to end of steering ROD (???). On the other side, there S/B a large nut on whatever side that the steering cable goes into. I am thinking it is an inch or maybe larger (wrench size needed). This is threaded on to your TILT TUBE and will have to be decoupled. Now just pull cable out of tilt tube. If it won't readily move after nut is decoupled and you or some big guy yanks on the steering cable, you are going to have to use a large hammer that has some weight behind it, at least 2 pounds. You are also going to have to come up with a long pin once you get that steering rod in the tube. If you can find something that will fit in the tube made of hard plastic or wood that would be preferable. I didn't. I ended up with a long carriage bolt from Lowes and tried to minimizing damage by putting a rag between the pin and end of the steering rod.
