steering cable: replace/ how to

I just replaced my 34 foot, single piece steering cable today in my 1965 Lonestar Malibu, and it seems like my motor doesn't have enough "turn" from side to side. am I suppose to have two or three wraps, from each side, around the steering wheel pulleys under the dash? please advise for my safety. thank's; Gregory

your drum should be full. also maintain the tension on the cables. it they get too loose, it will come off the drum. and is a real PITA, to straighten out on the water. voice of experience. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=200994
