I didn't know if I should post here or somewhere else...

As shown in the above picture the steering cable is too long. It was on the boat when I purchased it. Can I resize it to fit tucked away out of sight? If I can resize, what is the easiest side to modify, motor end or steering wheel??

Thanks
K

You dont cut 'em. Just order the length you need. Nice pic.

Nice clean-looking boat. I can tell you want that cable out of sight and out from underfoot.

Is this a new boat? If so, take the thing back to the dealer and insist that they put the proper cable in it.

If not, you can probably figure out some sort of re-routing that will hide most of the cable or at least get it up against the side of the boat. No sharp turns, though.

Thanks guys

I was afraid you would say buy a new one. Once again it is proven...

"Its not a boat, its a hole in the water you throw money in"

I'm flattered CA that you thought my '71 model was new :D

It looks new to me. But then, my boat looks like a garbage dump. You should see my control cables...they're way too long for the boat...I have a nice looping coil of them. Heck with it.

It doesn't look to me like you have enough excess there to form a loop loose enough not to bind.

If it were me, I'd just live with the darned thing, but judging from the nice job you've done on that boat, I doubt that will work for you.

The cable's a pretty red color, though...I have to say that.

But there's that paddle. I don't think you're going to get very far with that paddle. I have one just like it, and it's not much use. If I can't use the trolling motor, I'm going to get towed, I guess. [grin]

Re: Steering cable resizing ?s

The paddle has been handy if I beach the boat and need a push off. Considering when I put my outboard in reverse it does nothing more than churn the water, not much propulsion to speak of. Plus, the oar only cost me 25c at a garage sale, so I can't help but make it a staple boating item. And its out of the way underneath my Xtra long steering cable. I also a have trolling motor which in my opinion is a must have even if a person does not fish.
