I'm sure this problem has been discussed before but I'm new to the forum so I'll ask. I habe a 1988 Tracker fs1800 with a 115 inline merc 115.
The boat has been stored for two years and now the steering is stuck. There are two cables which attach to the motor. One goes through the motor tilt pivot. This is the cable that is stuck. The other seem s as though it is not binding in any way. I don't want to put too much pressure on the steering wheel and created more problems. Any help on how to removed the cable would be appreciated.

also, if it's been up for 2 years, use the red search function at the top of this page, and read 'awakening a sleeping outboard' i think is under the johnson forum but it good for merc also.

Probably a Teflex/Morse. Upon recently replacing mine, they admitted that their older cables were succeptable to siezure. Number is within 2 feet of the metallic connections attatching the fittings under the dash. If you can't read it get a mirror and look on the back. It's there.

Numerous places to buy a replacement including their web site.

When you install the new one, be very careful and no sharp bends; don't kink it, nice smooth flowing curves.

HTH

Mark
