I am in the process of moving the side console and control box and will need to replace the steering cable. The existing cable has the following printed on it - SSC7208 TELEFLEX. I think it is a rotary type system but not certain. What cables or systems are compatible with this number ? I didn't find the Teleflex web site of any help. Please read my post under Mercury and Mariner Outboard Repairs regarding the control cables. Many thanks.

Re: Steering cable substitution

You just need the right puplication. Look at page 44, the cable is listed as part SSC72XX. I take it that the xx is probably a lenght? This cable has a large nut at the helm end. It can be replaced with the SSC62XX which has a screw on adapter to the quick disconnect feature (uses big pin). I have the quick disconnect on my Safe-T steering and not once did I ever have to disconnect it in a hurry. :)

If you're not sure what length to order, they tell you how to measure for a new cable.

Teleflex Stern Drive Safe T QC Cable Manual
