I'm trying to remove a motor from a junk boat and cannot get the steering cable off. I got the nut loose but the cable does not want to come through the tilt tube. Anyone have suggestions on how to remove it? I did not disconnect anything from the helm.Would this make a difference? It's an 86 bayliner capri with a force 70 hp.TIA

Re: Steering cable

Remove the link-arm, cut the cable near the nut, use a 1/2" rod to drive out the remaining piece.

Disconnecting at the helm will not do much, if anything.

Re: Steering cable

Unbolt the motor and move it as far to port as you can.
